Welcome to Guwahati Jal Board

With a view to promote uninterrupted, hygienic, piped drinking water and hygienic environment in the Guwahati Metropolitan Area (GMA), Government of Assam notified the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewerage Board (Guwahati Jal Board) Act through the Government order GDD 80/145 dated 21st December 2011, in accordance with the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewerage Board Act, 2009, published on 28th February 2009.

The Guwahati Jal Board had its first meeting on 19th April 2012. Establishing its office at a rented building is in progress and construction of its own building will be taken up under the JICA funded project. 

Present Water Supply in Guwahati

At present, the water supply facilities in Guwahati Metropolitan area are operated by three departments, viz., Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Assam Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board (AUWSSB) and Public Health Engineering Department (PHED). The existing systems cater to about 30% of the residents. Besides of the water supply system, the households are mainly using the groundwater and the water supplied through the tankers.
